I posted these photos before on another blog, but wanted to return to this idea — the idea of a Kitchen Makeover on the cheap. We did a quick transformation of our generic kitchen in what I think is a good, if not particularly brilliant, take on what you can do to update a kitchen (without major structural flaws of course) while spending something close to zero. In our case this amounted to roughly the cost of a few cans of paint and some hardware and shelves from Ikea.
Of course, there’s always that lingering — and sometimes oppressive — thought, What Would My Kitchen Look Like if Money Was No Object? Well, at the risk of sounding completely unoriginal, in my case it would look pretty much like this one, only with fantastic finishes: a marble backsplash, lacquered cabinets, an even bigger vintage school clock, a la Thomas O’Brien. But in the meantime, I’ll settle for this (I have a feeling it’s gonna be a long meantime).

Upper cabinets gone. (And no, we don't miss them.)
